Cycling Through Japan's Goto Archipelago
Exploring Remote Areas On Two Wheels
Located one hundred kilometers off Nagasaki’s western coast, the Goto Islands serve as a window into Japan’s fascinating historical first contact with the western world, with the insular island nation’s tumultuous relationship with Christianity taking center stage. This little-known history is set against the stunning backdrop of the island’s remarkable natural landscapes, many of which have remained relatively untouched throughout an ever-modernizing age.
The best way to explore Goto is on two wheels, and our exclusive cycling tours provide a chance to experience the island’s natural beauty in a way that scratches the itch for both adventure and relaxation. With a variety of courses to choose from, visitors will pedal their way over mountain paths, alongside rivers, through rice fields, past seaside caves, and everything in between!
Adventure, Island Style
Life moves at its own pace on Goto, and after wheeling over exciting trails and past hidden gems, we’re happy to help guests unwind and enjoy a bit of well-earned, island-style relaxation. Stopping to rest beside a mountain stream or perhaps along a stretch of rugged coastline, our in-house cycling guide will brew steaming cups of freshly ground coffee or tea, served with some locally made sweets. Drinks and snacks in hand, our guide is always excited to share stories and interesting information about these remarkable islands, especially the things not found in the guidebooks!
Different Seasons, Different Islands
One of the best things about Goto is that there is no “wrong” time to visit. From the cherry blossoms of spring to summer’s shimmering emerald seas, autumn’s perfect temperatures and the dramatic seascapes of winter, the islands reveal a new and unique identity in each season.
